Heat Exchanger Cleaning PDF Print E-mail

The proper performance of heat exchangers within a process can affect the cost of the final product and the production rate. Unfortunately, heat exchangers are prone to fouling which reduces heat transfer that inevitably will impact product cost.  To reduce this impact, heat exchangers should be cleaned at intervals that are determined from optimal economic criteria.

Brushes (seen here), scrapers and hydroblasting can be used to clean heat exchangers. The Merrick Group, Inc. has experience in heat exchanger service work a wide variety of facilities including; power plants, chemical plants, petrochemical plants, petroleum refineries, and natural gas processing plants.

Heat Exchanger Program

  7. Tube plugging
  8. Final inspection (FME approved)
  9. Close unit (Torque certified)

The Merrick Group, Inc. specializes in nuclear heat exchanger maintenance. This program includes the complete servicing of Residual Heat Removal (RHR) Systems.

Heat exchangers require regular cleaning to keep them running properly and efficiently. Our heat exchanger cleaning processes use a variety of tools and techniques, including ones powered by air and water.

Brushes propelled by air and water quickly and efficiently clean soft tube fouling and sediment deposits without damaging tubes.

Scrapers propelled by air and water effectively remove hard mineral and marine deposits while minimizing internal tube abrasion and wear.

Also, hydroblasting with various nozzles and pressures can effectively clean the most stubborn fouling. Where pitting is present, hydroblasting is preferred because pressures and cleaning times can be adjusted to suit individual conditions.
