The Merrick Group Advantage

BHS Career Day

Reliability.
With decades of experience in the nuclear industry, The Merrick Group has gained an outstanding reputation and relationship with our customers. Our clients know they can rely on us to get the job done safely, on time, and on budget.

Efficiency.
At The Merrick Group, we’re proud to continually bring on-time solutions to our clients’ difficult industrial maintenance jobs. A variety of high-performance companies trust us to provide efficient, cost-effective solutions for their unique and challenging situations.

Dependable Technology.
Count on The Merrick Group for state-of-the-art technology applied in a wide variety of tasks. We’ve been called upon to use our expertise, technology, and design to adapt to unique projects throughout many industries. Our specialized equipment can blast through and rinse away inches of heavy buildup and thick residue. Our robotic Hydrocat units operate at impressive heights and can remove coatings more precisely and much faster than conventional blasting, with the added benefit of no airborne emissions.

Safety.
The Merrick Group’s primary goal is to provide and maintain a work environment that promotes health and safety for all employees and the general public. Every task is approached with the mindset that all accidents are preventable. Every employee takes full responsibility for safe work behaviors with a focus on reducing hazards within the working environment whenever possible. No job is that important or so urgent that precautions, policies, regulations, or laws concerning health and safety can be bypassed. Our continuing training, pre-job & post-job discussions, and use of industry operating experience regarding Industrial, Radiological, and Reactor Safety is our pathway to success for every job. Human Performance and the use of Error Prevention Tools are critical to the success of the Merrick organization and are maintained at the highest levels. Our expectations are clear, when in doubt; STOP, Take Timeout, Get Help and Never Proceed in the Path of Uncertainty. Additionally, our full-time safety officer is fully committed to compliance and enforcement of all internal/external safety policies or practices ensuring safety is the primary focus on a daily basis. The Merrick Group, Inc. is confident that we have the knowledge, experience, and ability to perform all projects Safe and Event Free.

Worldwide Service.
The Merrick Group has performed work for clients spanning the globe. During a recent job, The Merrick Group traveled to Spain during the summer of 2020 to handle the EST cleaning of a NAVY ship.  During another notable international success, Merrick employees headed to Taiwan to handle underwater nuclear work for the Taiwan Power Company. The Merrick Group was chosen for its extensive nuclear experience and its ability to handle related project tasks efficiently. While in Taiwan, the Merrick team used skills such as project management to oversee a team of divers working on an underwater nuclear reactor. The project was finished successfully and on time, and the Taiwan Power Company asked The Merrick Group to return several months later to manage the second part of the job. The Merrick Group had the privilege of joining the EST Group in a project working for the U.S. Navy in Sasebo, Japan in 2012, 2017, and 2018. Our services included 10,000-psi hydrolyzing of heat exchanger tubes on the USS Essex so EST could re-sleeve the tubes and improve the operating efficiency of the unit. The company has also handled jobs in Canada and plans to continue to expand its international work.

Employee Training and Growth

As a family-owned business, The Merrick Group understands that career is just one part of an employee’s life.

We place our employees first, invest in our employees’ growth, and have been successfully training our personnel for nuclear power plant access for decades.

Before any job begins, every employee that is assigned to that project must successfully complete “just in time” training along with a challenge board to ensure each member of the team is prepared.

Our state-of-the-art learning center is often requested and used by continuing education programs for technical skills, engineering, and nuclear training. The Merrick Group provides classroom and hands-on trainings and qualifications for our staff in the following areas:

A family company. That’s what I was told almost 8 years ago. Fresh out of college and no money to my name, The Merrick Group provided me with a chance; the same type of chance they offer everyone who comes in the door. I had no idea what to expect, power plants are these big daunting things and I have no idea what I’m about to get myself into. As I sit here so many years later I will tell you I’ve never regretted choosing Merrick. Immediately, they teamed me up with some of the most incredible people its ever been my pleasure to work beside, including the owners of the company, which was just absolutely shocking because by no means did they have to be there.

They were kind, patient, informative, and professional in virtually every aspect of anything we did and because of that, I was able to grow into someone I never expected to be; something more. As others have said, they care enough to invest in their team members. Training is thorough, so much so that even people who have never picked up a screwdriver can become nuclear technicians with enough perseverance. The Merrick Group is by all standards the best of the best. In my time working for them, I’ve been approached by 6 different companies offering me other jobs for honestly more money and it took all of 10 minutes to realize I wasn’t going anywhere. The culture the Merrick Group cultivates far outweighs any monetary gain I may have had by leaving. Our team cares about the quality of the work we do; something I haven’t seen in any of these other offers presented to me. In the nuclear world, I couldn’t imagine myself being anywhere else…[The Merrick Group has] been in business nearly 30 years, they never stop trying to improve. No matter how knowledgeable or experienced our team members are, each and every one of us knows there is always more to learn, always more ways to improve and grow. We should all be so lucky to be on a team like that.

The career path of a nuclear technician at The Merrick Group is exciting, challenging, and rewarding.

Dave Merrick’s Fundraiser for The Navy SEAL Foundation in Honor of Mike Day

Friends and Co-Workers, I am asking for your help. I never met Mike Day, but I have worked, trained, sweated and bled with men like him. This man was shot 27 times and fought back, but the demons of war were too much for this warrior. In June, I will be participating in the 4x4x48 challenge to raise money for The Navy SEAL Foundation in Mike’s name. The challenge will consist of running/walking 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 straight hours. I will be providing information on how you can support this cause in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, please read Mike Day’s story and considering supporting my efforts.

Whether you went shopping or donated to our Venmo, you helped make this year’s donation one of our best. Anyone can be Santa and make Christmas a little more magical for so many little ones! All children deserve to have Christmas memories and gifts under the tree, and you all made that possible!

Stop Soldier Suicide Fundraiser

Stop Soldier Suicide Fundraiser

Congratulations to Merrick Group VP, Dave Merrick, who completed a 50-mile walk in support of Stop Soldier Suicide. Thank you to all of our employees who donated to this very worthy cause. In total, Dave was able to raise $3751 in just a few short weeks. In his efforts, Dave fought through cold, PA weather conditions and wore a 22lb weight, which represents the average number of soldiers/veterans who take their own life each day. Dave, we are so proud of your dedication and are so happy we were able to support you on this journey. Thank you for allowing us to share in this fundraiser with you!!

I have always made an effort to surround myself with professional and hardworking individuals. From my time in Special Operations in the Military to now running my own business, working with The Merrick Group has been nothing short of those expectations. Merrick is a family-owned business that has set itself ahead of the rest in the nuclear industry. They have been a strong supporter of our Veteran hire initiative and have provided those who serve our country the opportunity to travel and learn new skills in nuclear maintenance. I have the upmost respect for this company and it has been a pleasure working with them.”
